Yesterday, one of our dearest friends lost her father after a short, but intense battle with cancer. The shock and pain she feels is palpable and made all the more personal, because we care about her and share in her pain.
She is the first in our sisterhood to lose a father. And while we struggle to find the words to comfort her, his passing reminds us that eventually, we each have to face the untimely loss of a parent.
In many ways this is impossible to concede. Our 30s have been marked by happy beginnings through the births of our children, our first homes, our professional lives.
We never considered the losses. It is much too early. We are so unprepared.
