This is how I know Maya and I really and truly share DNA.
Today, while reading Dr. Seuss she says to me that it doesn’t make sense. She rolls her eyes and expresses her annoyance. She’s referring to the content and I had to suppress my joy at my budding reader. It is a thrill to see her read, but a bigger thrill to know she is absorbing content — something I didn’t consciously begin to do until I was out of college.
She’s grumbled before but I thought it was just a fluke. The first time was while she read a book assigned by her teacher. She complained that the content wasn’t creative. I was filled with such a sense of pride! She’s six and she is developing distinctive literary tastes. Oh joy!
Oh Maya, the books we will read! The books we will share!!!
