The truth is that Jack is our son’s dog. We never expected it would turn out this way, but in fact, it has. Ryder has always been gun-shy about dogs, but Jack’s presence in our home has eased those fears.
To observe our son love his dog reveals a new side of him. Ryder’s affection is unsolicited and given free from expectations or reprisals. It simply is.
One day someone will walk into his life and he will love her in this manner. As his mother, I will know when the right girl has come along. I’ve seen him love when there is nothing to fear and nothing to lose.
Until then, Jack is the happy recipient of Ryder’s affection.
What a lucky dog.
